To the average American, Christmas can easily become more about gifts, food, and festivities than about Christ. The message of Jesus and the gospel is easily misplaced among all the other things we think about amid celebratory excitement.
In 2018, Americans are projected to spend $721 billion on Christmas alone! This figure covers expenditures for gifts, food, decorations, and travel.
Today, I urge you to consider this monumental question: In this season, is your focus me-centered or Christ-centered?
Are you more excited about receiving gifts or about generously sharing with others and giving the gospel, the greatest gift the world has ever known?
Every family celebrates differently. Some families give Christmas gifts. Some don’t. However, no matter how we go about it, we should uplift Christ in everything, as we celebrate the advent of the Savior of the world.
His coming coming provided atonement for our sins, as He, the Great Hight Priest and the once-for-all sacrifice, secured eternal redemption for us.
The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Christ meant all the difference for our eternal destiny. But it doesn’t stop there. The advent of Christ continually transforms the lives of those who have received the gospel.
Those who know Christ as Savior and Lord should live in light of His salvation. During the Christmas season, everything we do and say should point to Christ, the gospel, His unchanging Word, and its authority over every aspect of our lives.
